Indie Playlist Mondays
Every week, we’ll share ten new tracks and videos that make us say yay!
Allow us to complement your growing indie playlist with some of the sweetest tunes.
We don’t rate with numbers because everything is cat-approved.
01. Pony Pony Run Run – Just A Song
Reuel: This video is reminiscent of El Guincho’s Bombay and Shantelle’s Unamonos — montages of youth balanced by artists’ truest expressions. These songs provide varying bursts of flavor to musical palates around the globe. In the end they’re all just songs and we’re all people with unique interests. Not safe for work, as they say — but totally safe for your indie playlist.
02. Uncle Skeleton – Disquotek (Jensen Sportag Remix)
Roddy: 2K12 Resolution: Start smooth, stay smooth, be smooth [insert Keith Stone ref. here].
03. Buraka Som Sistema – We Stay Up All Night feat. Blaya & Roses Gabor (Star Slinger Remix)
Howard: Star Slinger how you make Buraka so chill? If you haven’t heard of this mix yet, it’s about to pop onto 20 million thousand blogs.
04. Panteros666 – Horreo (feat. Sam Tiba, Myd, and Canblaster)
Reuel: The Club Chevaliers have been making quite a pretty mess of things with their collective of gritty, ghetto beats. I absolutely cannot wait for their show at The Echoplex next week. I’m also horribly jealous of all those embarking on Holy Ship! this Friday. . .
05. Justice – On’n’On feat. Morgan Phalen (Brodinski Remix)
Reuel: Brodinski bangs out this remix for all the bros (and broettes) who’ll be banging their ‘eds til the end of times, regardless of what average metareviews from critics have to say.
06. Jubilants – Antics
Howard: Well Jubilants, it’s been a few months since you’ve released Antics online. More please. I love Australia.
07. Born Gold – Lawn Knives
Howard: Infectious, glitchy as fuck, short and tasty. Almost like a beautiful collision, Born Gold = well done.
08. AMTRAC – CONTROL
Roddy: Pretty chill track. Too ambient? I will punch in the ovaries. Shrooom shrroooommmm.
09. Hassan – Time of the Assassins (Steve Moore remix)
Roddy: Life is a rave, roll hard, and thrust accordingly. SloMo Mofos.
10. Ta-ku – Day 50
Reuel: His 50 DAYS FOR DILLA is an example of a pure, unabashed love for music and the artists that make it happen. A beautiful collection of instrumentals awaits anyone with the patience (or the car ride long enough) for a listen. We end this week’s indie playlist Monday with words from Ta-ku himself: “2011 was a tough year. This beat goes out to all those who have suffered heartache/heartbreak in recent times. Be strong. Pray.”
We’ll be sure to keep your seat warm and the groove intact until next week’s indie playlist — Sweetest Drip got yer back.
